a washout

Two people turned up for my Open Spaces in Nine Elms walk: Nick & me. Well, the weather was more like October than August; cold, gusting winds and heavy downpours. And I know London is half empty in August, so maybe it was the wrong time to try my first walk under my own umbrella (haha) after a number of successful guided walks delivered for Wandsworth Council. By this morning I wasn’t hopeful. No one had booked on Eventbrite, but I’d shared details of the walk with a local retirement living place and been told some of their residents might turn up on the morning to join the walk. So we waited, just in case, for a good 15 minutes after the start time before heading back. I don’t generally share disappointments, but I’ve banged on about these walks on social media for a bit, so for balance thought it best to be upfront about it.

We had a nice cup of tea and a sandwich after we got back, and then I curled up with a book. We’re cat-sitting at the moment, and the feline company helps as well. Not to mention the bottle of wine we bought on our way back, which will be opened soon.

  1. Oh Hilaire! What a pain, I feel for you. After the preparation and anticipation. The weather has been so dismal. I wish you luck with future dates and I’m sure they will take off. Xx
